Salt Water Cleanse – January 3
On Sunday, January 3, 2009 the public is invited to join Kumu Keala Ching and Na Wai Iwi Ola Foundation for their yearly Hi’uwai (Salt Water Cleanse) at Alula beach, just South of Honokohau Harbor. The ceremony begins at 11:30 am to be followed by a potluck. If you’d like to attend, bring a green ti leaf, some rain water caught around your home, and some Hawaiian salt. Wear clothing that can be immersed in the water such as a bathing suit, pareo, etc.
Hi’uwai, the salt water cleanse, helps us to focus on the new year ahead. As we look back on all the learning that took place in our lives over the past year, we know that we can learn from the past and carry that learning into the future. We can also release thoughts and emotions that are no longer needed. Reflection is a wonderful way to begin a new year.
Directions: Drive to the end of the road that leads into the Honokahau Harbor, park, and follow the trail to the beach South of the harbor entrance.
