Win “Exploring Historic Hilo!”
Hilo is one of my favorite towns on the Big Island. If not for the modern cars parked in the older part of town, you’d think that you’d traveled in time back to the good old days. And, in a way, you have. Tourism has yet to alter the bay front area much, so the buildings you see here are reminiscent of bygone days.
In her book, Exploring Historic Hilo, our own Leslie Lang takes readers on a tour of the old historic town. Filled with images – some from private collections and never before published – readers get a sense of what the town was like prior to the devastating 1946 tsunami. The photos in the book are keyed to a walking map, making it possible to actually see many of the locations highlighted in the book. Leslie’s attention to detail and penchant for historical accuracy make this book a must-have for history buffs, especially those interested in the history of Hawai‘i.

I love the old time vibe of Hilo! I hope I win the book, so I can do my own walking tour!
This would be a good read and a good opportunity to show my children more about their dad’s home town.
I really would like to win this because it is by my FAVORITE WRITER.
Hi-Lo… Isn’t that a card game similar to “War”?
Can you believe when I first heard I was moving to Hilo I actually pronounced it High Low until I got here and found out the name was HELow.
This is a wonderful book, I should know, I own 2 copies of it! One signed by the author…I guess I never told you Leslie, that after I had you sign the copies I had bought for Christmas gifts (and one for me), David also bought your book to give as gifts the same year. We gave each other your book for Christmas!
when teaching my students about primary resources i use your book (from the school library) how would you feel about coming to my classroom or better yet, taking a walking tour of hilo with my students and i?
